Barrier Performance and Shelf Life
Mylar's role in cannabis packaging is barrier protection. Flower and other moisture-sensitive products degrade through exposure to oxygen, light, and humidity swings, and a barrier film slows all three relative to a simple polyethylene bag.
Stand-up pouches in the 1/8 oz to 1 oz range cover the common retail flower formats. Flat bags serve secondary and bulk transfer roles where shelf presentation matters less than protection and cost.
Resealable Means Repeatedly Child-Resistant
A child-resistant zipper seal has to do something a jar lid does not: maintain its child-resistant performance across many open-and-close cycles, because a multi-serving bag will be opened repeatedly over the product's life.
The CPSC senior-adult panel test specifically requires that at least 90 percent of the panel can both open and properly reclose the package. Reclosure is part of the standard, not an afterthought. When evaluating a bag, ask for the test report covering the exact film and closure configuration you intend to ship.
